CARLOS QUEIROZ CONFIDENT AS BLACK STARS BEGIN WORLD CUP PREPARATIONS WITH WALES CLASH

Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has expressed confidence in the Black Stars ahead of their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting his players are ready and highly motivated as they prepare to face Wales in an international friendly.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference in Cardiff on Monday, the Portuguese tactician said preparations have gone according to plan despite the challenges of assembling players from different clubs across the world.

“It is an honour for us to be here in Wales. We appreciate the cooperation from the Welsh Football Association and everyone involved. The preparation has been positive, and the players have shown great commitment from the moment they arrived in camp,” Queiroz stated.

The former Portugal and Real Madrid coach described the Wales encounter as an important part of Ghana’s World Cup preparations and stressed that his team will approach the game with a winning mentality.

“We are ready to take off on our World Cup journey. The players are excited, committed, and looking forward to the challenge. We always aim to play good football because when you play well, you increase your chances of winning,” he added.

MESSAGE TO GHANAIANS

Queiroz also had a message for Ghanaian football fans, promising that the Black Stars would give everything on the pitch.

“We want to play great football, win matches, and bring pride and happiness to Ghanaians. The players are fully committed to representing the nation, and I believe the future is positive.”

DJIKU REPLACEMENT NOT A CONCERN

The Black Stars coach addressed concerns regarding the absence of defender Alexander Djiku, explaining that football often presents unexpected situations and that the team has enough quality replacements available.

“Football can surprise you sometimes. We had to replace Djiku, but we have capable centre-backs in camp and we are ready for the challenge.”

NO FRIENDLIES FOR GHANA

Although the game against Wales is officially a friendly, Queiroz insisted his team does not treat any match lightly.

“When we wear the Ghana shirt, we play to win. There are no friendly matches in our mindset. Every game is an opportunity to improve and compete at the highest level.”

SUCCESS AT THE WORLD CUP

Asked about Ghana’s objectives at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Queiroz avoided setting specific targets, saying the team’s focus is on taking one game at a time.

“We want to leave the tournament with Ghana’s reputation, pride, and honour higher than before. Success will be judged by our performances and results.”

GHANA’S PASSION IMPRESSES QUEIROZ

The Portuguese manager revealed that one of the things that has impressed him most since taking over the Black Stars is the country’s passion for football.

“Ghana has talented players and passionate supporters. Those two ingredients create a powerful combination for success. Football means everything to many Ghanaians, and that passion is inspiring.”

PRESSURE COMES WITH THE JOB

Queiroz acknowledged the pressure that comes with managing a national team but said it serves as motivation rather than a burden.

“Every coach in football works under pressure. Pressure keeps us focused, hungry, and determined to improve. It is simply part of the profession.”

THOMAS PARTEY SELECTION

On criticism surrounding the inclusion of Thomas Partey in the squad, Queiroz maintained that everyone deserves the presumption of innocence until proven otherwise.

“As far as I know, every person is innocent until proven guilty by a court of law. We must allow due process to take its course.”

LOOKING AHEAD

The Black Stars will face Wales in Cardiff as they continue preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The match will provide Queiroz and his technical team with an opportunity to assess the squad and fine-tune strategies ahead of the global tournament.

With confidence growing in camp and players eager to impress, Ghana’s World Cup journey officially begins with renewed hope and ambition.
