“We’ll Make Him a Chief” – Kofi Adams Backs New Black Stars Coach Carlos Queiroz
Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has thrown his full support behind newly appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz, declaring that the Portuguese tactician could even be honoured with a traditional chieftaincy title if he delivers success for the national team.
The Minister made the light-hearted but symbolic remark while officially welcoming Queiroz and presenting him with a traditional Fugu, a respected cultural garment that represents unity, honour and Ghana’s rich heritage.
“The coach will do so well with us that we’ll make him a chief,” Adams said, highlighting the confidence and optimism surrounding the former Portugal national football team and Iran national football team manager.
The presentation of the Fugu was more than a ceremonial gesture. In Ghanaian tradition, such gifts are often reserved for distinguished visitors and individuals held in high regard. It also served as a clear sign of the government’s commitment to supporting Queiroz as he begins his mission with the four-time African champions.
Queiroz arrives with a wealth of international experience, having managed some of the biggest teams in world football and worked at multiple editions of the FIFA World Cup. He has now been entrusted with the task of rebuilding the Black Stars and guiding them to a strong campaign at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
His appointment forms part of a wider restructuring effort by the Ghana Football Association, which is determined to restore Ghana’s status as one of Africa’s leading football nations.
With strong backing from both government and football authorities, expectations are rising that Queiroz can usher in a new era for the Black Stars — and perhaps earn a special place in Ghanaian football history.
